First 30 tweets ever sent, in honour of Twitter’s birthday

It was six years ago today that the world's very first tweet was sent out into the Twittersphere:

While not exactly compelling, it certainly set a precedent for the kinds of inane facts people share via Twitter, especially when they first sign up. To be fair to Twitter's co-founder Jack Dorsey, the original "twttr" helpfully tweeted the phrase "just setting up my twttr" automatically from new accounts, which is why it makes up the majority of first posts to the micro-blogging site.

Here's a look at those first 30 tweets (and one honourable mention), as collected by the Twitter account First30Tweets:

Dorsey and fellow co-founder, Dom Sagolla, seem to monopolize the first few tweets, but they also are some of the first users to get the hang of it (although Sagolla ended up being the ninth user on Twitter, instead of the second).

Since those first tweets went out six years ago, Twitter has quickly grown to more than 200 million registered users (although that was as of one year ago, and has likely grown significantly since then).

According to USA Today, it took Twitter three years, two months and one day to hit one billion tweets.
