Free Walkie-Talkie app ‘Voxer’ going viral on Androids, iPhones

The viral success of the 'Voxer' walkie-talkie app proves that we still crave the nostalgia of yesterday's communication.

You wouldn't think you'd need a walkie-talkie when you already own a cellphone, but this push-to-talk voice service has quickly become one of the most popular downloads on both the iPhone and Android platforms. And while it's been blowing up on Twitter, not everyone is singing its praises.

Tweets of the app no longer working began popping up just days after #Voxer took the Twitterverse by storm.

"My #Voxer Just Stopped Working," said @ShadCalamari, no more than a day after @COCO_knows_HYFR tweeted "Well looks like #Voxer died that quick."

Voxer is almost like sending a text message with your voice; not exactly a walkie-talkie but its many users don't seem to mind. There is an option to listen to an incoming message live but with the default settings, users must press on the 'Hold and Talk' button to record and the recipient must access the notification in order to hear the recorded message.

User can create a new identity or simply log in with their Facebook accounts and sync their contacts. Check out the video below for a quick demo and let us know what you think:
