iPad 3, BlackBerry leaks making the rounds online

The iPad 3 leaks just keep rolling in!

Nearly three weeks after the supposed shipping date had been revealed, specs on the latest update to Apple's token tablet have begun making the rounds. And north of the border, the lowly Canadian competition at RIM are dealing with their own set of untimely leaks.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, here's what we can tell you about the iPad 3, as well as the new BlackBerry tablet and smartphone.

iPad 3 specs and details

A source who claims to have an iPad 3 prototype provided BGR with this image to the right: debug screenshots containing detailed info on Apple's highly anticipated tablet. Here's what Gizmodo was able to decipher:

• "Confirmation of the presence of the faster A6 processor, 'model number S5L8945X.' The A4 is the S5L8930X and the A5 is S5L8940X."
• "The model numbers are J1 and J2. BGR claims this is the same iPad available in Wi-Fi and GSM/CDMA/LTE flavors."

Models J1 and J2 will reportedly be two seperate versions of the same iPad. And as BGR adds, "the new processor will also apparently be a quad-core model, making the upcoming iPad 3 the fastest iOS device ever, we have been told."

New BlackBerry Playbook, smartphone

No, the image to the right is not a map of your local subway system. This is a slide posted on BGR that appears to detail RIM's product roadmap for 2012, and it looks like we can expect to see an updated PlayBook, as well as brand new Curve 9220 and 9320 models in the coming quarters.

"Rumors of the PlayBook's revamp have been swirling, and the leaked roadmap shows a new model with a 1.5GHz dual core chip, HSPA+, and NFC," reports T.C. Sottek in an article posted on The Verge.

"The new Curve models are reported to have a dedicated BBM button on the side, a 2.44-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 240, 512MB each of RAM and internal storage, and an FM radio. The 9320 will feature HSPA, but if you're looking for a truly nostalgic smartphone experience, the 9220 will operate with EDGE (2G) data."

The slide also appears to all but confirm rumours that the BlackBerry 10 is pegged for a Q3 release, but tech experts are still hoping to get a peek at the Mobile World Congress later this month.
