iPad survives wild ride after getting lodged in a car’s bumper

We’ve seen Apple products survive some crazy situations before, like this iPhone 4 that still worked after plummeting from a skydiver’s pocket. Add the iPad to the list of hard-wearing products, as this one managed to come out with only apparently cosmetic damage after going for a ride in a car’s bumper.

Alexa Crisa of Marietta, Georgia got quite the surprise last Friday when she arrived home after a shopping trip. After parking her car in the driveway, he father inquired, “why is there an iPad in your car?”

“I got scared and said, ‘Did someone throw something in the sunroof of my car,’ and he said, ‘No, there’s an iPad in the bumper of your car,” Crisa told ABC News.

Sure enough, Crisa saw that there was an iPad firmly lodged in her Nissan Sentra’s bumper. After her father managed to dislodge it using a hammer, he and Crisa were surprised to discover that the device still turned on. The glass of the screen was broken, but it was functional; unfortunately, Crisa was unable to contact the owner as the screen was locked, so she couldn’t get his or her contact information.

As to how the iPad got there, Crisa managed to figure out what happened: about an hour earlier, she had been driving on a residential street in Marietta when a car pulled out in front of her and she saw something fly off the roof of the car. She slammed on the brakes and braced for whatever it was to hit her, but Crisa says she didn’t feel anything.

“I went to Target and ran errands with this iPad hanging out of my bumper. I had no clue,” Crisa said to ABC News. “I’m not even sure how I missed it other than I don’t check my bumper for random dislodged electronics.”

Eventually, Crisa was able to track down the owner. His phone number popped up on screen when he used the “Find My Phone” app to track down the rouge iPad, so Crisa called him up and the two shared a good laugh about how she’d come into possession of his device. He managed to get a replacement iPad through Apple’s warranty plan, and has offered to pay for Crisa’s damaged bumber.

Crisa’s story attracted the attention of many people online after she posted the above picture of her damaged bumper to her Facebook page. It even sparked controversy on Reddit when a redditor posted Crisa’s picture to the popular link-sharing site, claiming that the incident had actually happened to him. Other redditors were quick to debunk the post, and showed proof that it was indeed Crisa who had found and recovered the iPad from her car.
