Must-Have Monday: Embrace your dark side with your own custom lightsaber

Whether you align yourself with the Jedi or the Sith, there's one key tool you need in your arsenal (other than a solid command of The Force): a trusty lightsaber. While you could always go the discount route and pick one up at your local toy store, the true enthusiast wants all the bells and whistles.

Lightsaber company Ultrasabers makes Star Wars-style weapons for the real sci-fi fans. But instead of offering lightsabers strictly for display, Ultrasabers calls their weaponry 'combat lightsabers,' so you and friends can actually re-create your favourite scenes from the movie, or create your own (and possibly achieve Internet stardom as the next Star Wars kid).

Lightsabers come in a couple of basic styles: single blade, for a traditional-looking lightsaber; double blade lightsaber, best known for being what Darth Maul wielded in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace; and lightsabers in either single or double blade styles with sound effects. Within those basic categories, there are numerous styles of hilt available — two that I'm partial to are the War Glaive and the Reaper, both of which can come with sound. The blades are made of a thick polycarbonate tube and are available in eight light colours. Many of the lightsabers can run on four standard AA batteries, but Ultrasabers recommends going with their lithium-ion battery option, which will cut down on the number of batteries you go through during your lightsaber's lifetime.

Who would love it: Like you even have to ask? Any fan of the Star Wars films would be over the moon (or perhaps the Death Star) to get one of these.

How much it costs: Prices range depending on the model and accessories you're interested in. The Initiate V2 costs $54.99 USD, while The Graflex CE starts at $224 USD and includes a nickel-plated hilt and sound effects. Alternatively, you can purchase parts through Ultrasabers and put together your own lightsaber.

Where to get it: All of the lightsabers are available through www.ultrasabers.com
