Pioneer launches free alternative to Apple’s Siri

The tech world did more than simply take notice when Apple VP Scott Forstall unveiled Siri on just over a month ago.

Consumers were simply introduced to another cool feature to accompany the new iPhone, but tech titans such as Pioneer were taking notes, preparing ideas to excel where Siri might have fallen short.

The electronics company, known for creating elite speakers and sound systems, recently joined the fray of voice-activated aides with the launch of its new Zypr service.

Zypr includes many of the basic voice command functions that Siri provides: users can request weather updates, place calls from their phonebook and search for good places to eat. But Zypr plans to usurp its Apple counterpart with the ability to function on a variety of devices including tablets, computers, smartphones and in-car entertainment systems.
