Toronto’s Rogers Centre one of the most social landmarks in the world

Checking in to a location on Facebook has become a regular habit for many Canadians as they visit their usual hangout spots. Now, Facebook has unveiled where in the world people are checking in the most.

The social media giant has released this infographic detailing 25 of the most social landmarks in the world. Toronto was selected for the study as one of the world's most social cities, and the Rogers Centre topped the list of landmarks where Facebook users had checked in. The former Skydome is not only home to the Toronto Blue Jays, but also hosts the Toronto Argonauts as well numerous concerts and other major events.

Toronto wasn't alone in having a sports venue as the top social landmark. According to the infographic, seven sports venues worldwide ranked as the place where people checked in the most.

Facebook also found some interesting results on hot locations versus cold ones. Overall, warmer cities like Melbourne and Auckland saw outdoor locations as the most checked-in landmarks. On the other hand, indoor locations were the top social spots for colder cities like Moscow. In fact, six of the ten most checked-in landmarks in Moscow were bars or clubs.

The data for the study was based on check-ins to Facebook directly or third-party applications on the site. The data has been collected since Facebook launched check-ins back in 2010, and ranked the landmarks people had checked into in each city.

The cities in the study were selected by Facebook as some of the world's most 'social cities' and landmarks were then ranked in each one.
