Newborn elephant's charming attempt to stand on its own 4 feet

Struggle captured on video demonstrates extra-large animals can be cute and adorable, too

An elephant may be the only creature that can weigh over five tons and still be accurately described as "cute." Could be the trunks. Could be the ears. Or it could be their ability to be adorably helpless as babies and surprisingly athletic as adults.

Two videos bring home the point: The first video (above) features a newborn elephant attempting to stand for the first time. Notice we wrote "attempting." Like a college student who can't quite get up for that 8 a.m. class across campus, this elephant tries to stand but doesn't have the muscles or coordination.

The video was shot by Brad Wishen in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2012. We're not sure how the elephant is doing now, but we bet it's a lot more mobile these days. Who knows — maybe it even plays soccer like a pro ... a giant, lumbering pro, just like Beco. In a video provided by Buzz60, the elephant from the Columbus, Ohio, zoo is given a ball for his fifth birthday. Athletic feats ensue.

Beco bends it like Beckham, heading the ball this way and that until, finally, he grows a bit bored of the beautiful game and stomps the ball with his feet. Game over, time to eat.
