Anne Hathaway’s odd wedding present from PETA

Good on Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman for being strategic in choosing their wedding date: It was only a few days before World Farm Animals Day, on October 2, so neither of them has an excuse to forget their anniversary!

OK, it's quite possible that it wasn't intentional. Regardless, the coincidence wasn't lost on PETA officials, who offered the 29-year-old actress from "The Dark Knight Rises" a wedding present that honoured both occasions: a steer named Peter.

In a press release sent out Tuesday, PETA announced that it would sponsor Peter in Hathaway's name. Peter was rescued from an abusive dairy farm in Pennsylvania and now lives at a New Jersey cow sanctuary.

Now that Peter has recovered from the ringworm, pinkeye, and lice he contracted while at the dairy farm, he and PETA are thanking Hathaway and Shulman for serving a vegan (meat- and dairy-free) menu to their 100-plus wedding guests, reportedly including veggie burgers, cupcakes, and truffle macaroni and "cheese."

"What better day than World Farm Animals Day to recognize Anne Hathaway, a woman whose kind diet spares countless animals and inspires others to follow in her footsteps?" the press release said.

Hathaway followed a vegan diet to slim down for her roles in "The Devil Wears Prada," "The Dark Knight Rises," and "Les Miserables." She also went vegetarian for good after a stressful breakup with Raffaello Follieri in 2008.

We're wishing Anne, Adam, and Peter a very happy and healthy life together!
