S Club 7 reunites for new tour
There ain't no reunion like an S Club reunion!
Yes, it seems that the party-loving, seven-member British group that hit it big in the early 2000s has reportedly signed a seven-figure deal to reunite, nine years after disbanding.
Rachel Stevens, Jo O'Meara, Hannah Spearritt, Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, and Bradley McIntosh are set to bring their "S Club Party" to a series of concerts in the U.K. this summer and may also release two albums.
"With the Olympics coming up and the queen's diamond jubilee concert, there's a real British feel-good factor at the moment," a source told the Daily Mirror. "The band figured it was a case of now or never. And if the gigs go well there is the option to release a new album, plus a greatest hits."
"Idol" franchise creator Simon Fuller created the band in 1998, helping it rise to fame with radio-friendly songs and the guilty pleasure TV series "Miami 7." The band enjoyed pop music success with four albums, selling more than 17 million units and landing four No. 1 hits in the U.K. before members parted ways in 2003.
So, what have the seven been up to? Since the split, Stevens and O'Meara have launched solo careers, while Barrett laid low until releasing the album "Fire" in 2009. Spearritt has carved out a bit of an acting career, starring in the U.K. series "Primeval," and Cattermole (who dated Spearritt until 2006) managed to build a reputation as a DJ. After leaving S Club, McIntosh briefly joined the boy band Upper Street, but has since been producing music rather than performing it. Finally, Lee -- the youngest member of the group at 29 -- came out in 2010 and has carved out a stage career.
In 2008, O'Meara, Cattermole, and McIntosh launched a minireunion tour for local colleges and nightclubs. And last year the entire band posed for photos on the "Jersey Boys" red carpet to support Lee in his West End debut.
Cattermole had originally left the band in 2002 (forcing it to change the name to just "S Club"), but surprisingly, he seems to be the member most excited about the reunion.
"S club 7 . thanks for all the tweets guys !! ... :)xx #trendingworldwide" he tweeted Wednesday.
