Some celebrities are born famous, while others have to spend years practicing and perfecting their craft. Sometimes, as a photo recently uploaded to Instagram by a famous comedian demonstrates, those years of hard work and practice begin in childhood.
Though this photo might suggest that one of these children is now a world-renowned jazz dancer or a musical theatre star, that's not the career he ended up in. Though he did get his big break in New York City, he was more often found in grungy stand-up comedy clubs than the big stages of Broadway. While studying marketing at New York University in the early 2000s, he became a familiar face at the improv club Upright Citizens Brigade – also known for launching the careers of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. His connection to Poehler would come in handy later in both of their careers.
If you’re still stumped as to which of these bedazzled tappers is now a big name in comedy, just look for the one that doesn’t look like the others. Even as a kid, this funnyman knew how to stand out from a crowd. So, who is it?
Yes, the pint-sized performer is none other than Aziz Ansari, best known as Tom Haverford on the sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” The 30-year-old actor and comedian posted this photo to his Instagram feed this Thursday, along with the caption: “Oh yeah, back in SC, I took some dance classes. (I'm back row, 2nd from the left).”
Ansari grew up in Bennetsville, South Carolina, where he evidently fostered his interest for the arts. Since then, he has appeared in “Flight of the Conchords,” “Scrubs,” “I Love You Man,” and “Funny People," in addition to his starring role on "Parks and Recreation."
