The more media interviews, public appearances, and awards speeches Jennifer Lawrence makes, the more we wonder how such an incredibly goofy and wondrous person came into existence, and who should we be thanking for it. Well, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel, we now have a better look at one half of Lawrence’s genetic makeup.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Thursday night, Lawrence looked composed on the outside in a bright yellow dress showing off her fit frame and dirt blonde wavy hair – but on the inside, she was already two tequila shots and a beer deep. That made for a pretty interesting conversation, including the 22-year-old Golden Globe winner revealing her discovery that her breasts are uneven when she got a chest x-ray at the doctor’s office, as she recovers from a bout of pneumonia. But Lawrence’s biggest worry was over her mother watching from the audience.
“I’m sorry, but I really didn’t want to drink, though! I was nervous, and they were like ‘Drink this!’ and they pressured me,” Lawrence pleaded to her mom, Karen, who runs a children’s camp in Kentucky.
“Tequila shots are probably not okay,” Karen responded, moving her hand across her neck.
“I agree, I think she’s right,” her obedient daughter echoed right away.
But it turns out that Lawrence’s tendency for rule-bending runs in the family. The actress admitted that her mother prematurely revealed to entertainment journalists that her daughter had won the sought-after role of Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games” movie franchise while attending the Oscars in 2011.
“I wasn’t even officially offered the role yet, or very secretly offered the role, when it was very under wraps. ‘Don’t bring it up, don’t do anything,'” Lawrence explained. “And I see my mother surrounded by reporters, ‘Well my favourite book is The Hunger Games. Wink.’ She’s gone and done it.”
This wasn’t the first time Jennifer’s mom acted out of turn. She also tried to send in her daughter’s Oscar ballot in 2012, which would have been taken into account for this year’s awards ceremony – luckily, Lawrence ended up with a nomination for Best Actress for her role in “Silver Linings Playbook.” Unfazed by the last time her mother attended the star-studded event, Lawrence will once again bring her family to the 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony later this month. After all, it was because of her mother that she took “The Hunger Games” role that shot her to stardom anyway.
But hopefully during this trip down the red carpet, Lawrence's mother will keep her daughter’s upcoming projects to herself. Or at least try to control the waterworks, as Karen tends to get a bit teary-eyed on camera.
“Were you weeping on ‘Access Hollywood’?” Kimmel asked.
“She was stepping on my foot,” Mrs. Lawrence quipped back in a charming southern drawl.
“I’m just like ‘Stop crying woman,'” Lawrence chimed in. “My dad and I both react different on camera, my dad and I both turn into compulsive rednecks and my mother just turns into, like, a weeping willow ...We’re a totally normal family. I’m drunk, she’s crying.”
Normal probably isn’t the word to use – but please Lawrence family, don’t ever change.
