Despite the fact that Weight Watchers spokesperson Jessica Simpson recently announced that she’s pregnant and, thus, will be putting her diet plan on the shelf until after her second child arrives later this year, the 32-year-old is still talking up the weight-loss program in a new TV commercial. In the $1.4-billion company’s latest spot, Simpson – who dropped more than 50 of the pounds she gained while pregnant with 8-month-old daughter Maxwell – stars alongside Weight Watchers’ other famous female pitchperson, Jennifer Hudson.
As the women walk separately down a city street, they tell the world about their previous weight struggles. “I was overweight my whole life,” says Hudson, who credits the program with helping her drop 80 pounds a few years back. “I obsessed about my weight my whole life,” Simpson adds.
When the two ladies finally meet in the commercial, Simpson exclaims “I amazed myself,” while program vet Hudson, 31, responds with, “Get used it.”
Since the commercial was shot in November, Simpson was indeed pregnant at the time, but hadn't revealed her secret to the public yet. After the singer-turned-fashion designer announced her pregnancy via Twitter (nearly a month after Us Weekly ran the news as a cover story), Weight Watchers – which is reportedly paying Simpson $4 million – released a statement confirming that Simpson would not be following the program during her pregnancy, “while her weight and well-being are monitored by her obstetrician, as is recommended for any woman during pregnancy,” the statement read. "After she gives birth, Jessica and her doctor will decide when she may resume following the Weight Watchers program."
The next day, the company debuted a commercial in which Simpson talks about her previous weight loss and future endeavors: "Being healthy has become a part of who I am, which is great timing because I'm having another baby. I feel like I'm on top of the world!"
The Texas native, who’s engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson, then proved her “on top of the world” attitude when she tweeted a bikini shot of herself, which showed the world her burgeoning baby bump.
But Simpson may have her work cut out for her after baby number two arrives, since many moms report losing pregnancy weight is harder the second time around. But we’ll be rooting for you, Jess!
