The current star of "The Bachelor," Juan Pablo Galavis, stopped by the "The Insider" newsroom on Wednesday, and in addition to telling us what viewers can expect to see on the hit ABC show this season, he revealed his connection to the slain former Miss Venezuela, Monica Spear.

Spear and her ex-husband, Thomas Henry Berry, were shot and killed on Monday in her home country of Venezuela after authorities say their car broke down and armed robbers opened fire. Their 5-year-old daughter, shot in the leg, survived the shooting.

Juan Pablo opened up to us about meeting the beauty queen, saying, "I met her because my cousin — she's one of the biggest soap opera stars, actually, in Venezuela ― and her husband just did a soap opera with [Monica] in Miami. So I got to meet her." He added, "She was a genuine girl. People loved her."

The news of Spear's tragic death caused Juan Pablo to get his remaining family out of Venezuela. His parents and brother live in the United States, but his sister still resides in his home country. He told "The Insider," "My sister is coming on Monday after that. I said, 'You know what, she's pregnant and I have a niece. After that, I want you to be here. I'd rather you start here in the United States with me with the help of the family than being there and being scared.'"
