Believe it or not, this is what Richard Gere looks like now.

People's Sexiest Man Alive of 1999 was nearly unrecognizable on the set of his new film "Franny" earlier this week. The 64-year-old actor was photographed Monday shooting a number of scenes sporting long grey hair and a colourful scarf.

In the film, Gere plays a philanthropist who befriends a couple of newlyweds in order to recapture his youth. Directed by newcomer Andrew Renzi, the movie also stars Dakota Fanning and Theo James as the couple.

Gere appears to be having the time of his life on set, despite reports that he and Cary Lowell, his wife of 11 years, have parted ways. According to the New York Post, the couple has been living separately "for some time" after marrying in 2002, two years after welcoming a son.

“They have a place in Bedford [New York], and [Gere] likes it because it’s quiet and he likes the solitude,” an insider told the Post. “She likes being in North Haven in the limelight. They live next door to Jimmy Buffett and his family, and they’re good friends.”

Before he started dating Lowell in the late '90s, Gere was married to supermodel Cindy Crawford.
