Actress Debi Mazar has been Madonna’s best friend for more than 30 years, ever since she met the star singer in an elevator in the early '80s. As such, it was no surprise to see Mazar talking about her relationship with Madge when she stopped by to talk to Andy Cohen on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens: Live" this week.
Among the details Mazar revealed were that the 54-year-old singer recently made her a kosher Thanksgiving dinner, that she smells of gardenias, and the small matter that “Sean” was her true love. When asked if she was referring to Madonna’s one-time hubby Sean Penn, Mazar cryptically replied “maybe.”
Madonna married the Oscar-winning actor on her birthday in 1985, embarking on a passionate and sometimes controversial relationship that was marred by arguments. The volatile marriage ultimately ended in 1989.
The A-list duo’s marriage was purportedly dogged by Penn’s moods. Despite a passionate relationship, Penn is alleged to have once tied Madonna to a chair and beat her, an incident that led to the involvement of the Malibu Sheriff’s Department and the couple’s eventual divorce.
Nevertheless, the duo has remained close, and Sean was even invited to attend the birth of Madonna's daughter Lourdes in 1996. He was also spotted in the front row of Madonna’s concert at the Staples Centre in October.
"Their chemistry was off the charts," raved a fellow concertgoer. "Madonna seemed to be performing entirely for Sean. And he was saying things like 'Amazing!' and 'She's so hot!'"
