The JuiceSimon Cowell breaks silence over baby news as his former flames react
On Thursday, Simon Cowell sat down with reporters to discuss the upcoming third season of “The X Factor.” Unsurprisingly, he ended up fielding questions about recent revelations that he is expecting a baby with Lauren Silverman, the estranged wife of the music mogul’s former friend Andrew Silverman.
Speaking to journalists at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, Cowell joked "Am I missing something?" as reporters offered their congratulations.
"Unfortunately, I have to keep this for the moment private,” he continued. “It's just one of those things. But thank you very much anyway."
When pressed on the issue, Cowell explained: "I would love to [talk], but I have to respect a lot of people's feelings right now. There [are] a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there's a lot of people's feelings involved here."
Cowell wasn’t the only person speaking out on the pregnancy that dominated the headlines Wednesday, as Lauren Silverman, 36, also spoke out.
“I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible to ensure the well-being of our son," she said in a statement released through her attorneys. "I would hope for some space and privacy in order to work through this."
Friends and celebrities have been quick to share their support for the 53-year-old dad-to-be. Former girlfriend Carmen Electra has said she’s “superhappy” for the man she reportedly dated just last year: "I obviously think that his child will be very well taken care [of] and very, very loved," she said.
Erstwhile '80s pop singer Sinitta, another one of Cowell's former flames, was also stunned by the news, with reports claiming she’d burst into tears and wailed “It should have been me.” The star even sent a cryptic tweet that seems to have foretold the news just days before the story broke online.
"Something has just happened ..half miracle, half nightmare #WakeMeUpIWantToGetOff!!" she wrote.
