Winter storm closes Manitoba highways

Several stretches of highways in southern Manitoba are closed Tuesday morning due to a winter storm.

Highway 1 is closed from Winnipeg west to the Saskatchewan border due to poor road conditions.

Other closures include:

- Highway 3 from Oak Bluff southwest to Carman and Morden.

- Highway 3 from Cartwright south to Deloraine.

- Highway 13 from Oakville south to Carman.

- Highway 2 from Winnipeg west to Elm Creek.

- Highway 2 from Highway 18 west to Souris.

- Highway 14 from Highway 75 west to Morden.

- I-29 in North Dakota closed both ways from Fargo to Canada.

- Highway 21 from Griswold south to the U.S. border.

- Highway 10 south from Brandon to the U.S. border.

- Highway 5 south from Carberry to the U.S. border.

- Highway 23 west from Highway 5 to Highway 10.

Eastbound Highway 101 at Highway 7 was closed at Brookside Boulevard but has since reopened.

'The craziest day'

Aaron Jimenez, a delivery driver for Loomis Express, said the whiteout conditions were the worst he's seen in the 10 years since moving to Winnipeg from the Philippines.

"This is the craziest day I've been driving," he said, adding highway officials told him a Highway 1 closure in Headingley likely wouldn't be lifted until later in the afternoon.

"I have to deliver stuff [to Elie, Oakville and Portage la Prairie], and now I'm late … Hopefully it will open soon."
