Boater rescued from ocean in Vancouver's False Creek

A boater was pulled from the water Wednesday night near Vancouver's Burrard Street Bridge, after several people called 9-1-1 reporting a small boat going in circles with nobody on board.

An official with the Canadian Coast Guard said a civilian boater helped with the rescue, locating the man in the ocean near the recently closed Kitsilano Coast Guard Station, and pulling him to safety.

Coast Guard members then brought the man ashore on one of their small fast response vessels.

The boater, wearing soaked shorts and a T-shirt, was treated for a cut to has ankle. He was then taken to hospital by the B.C. Ambulance Service for possible stitches.

The Coast Guard's Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said the rescue was just one of at least 16 boating incidents it was involved with on the water around Vancouver on a busy Canada Day night.
