Body of Behzad Ahmad, who fell into Yoho River, found

The parents of a boy who was swept away by the Yoho River are relieved to have some closure today, after learning their son's body has been found, family friend Sultan Mahmood said

Behzad Ahmad, 11, has been missing since Friday evening after he slipped into the Yoho and was pulled away by the current.

Ahmad was on a day trip with his family and was one of two boys who fell into the water. The other boy was rescued, but relatives could not reach Ahmad.

Mahmood said he was with Ahmad's parents and extended family in the Banff area on Tuesday morning to meet with Parks Canada staff and get an update on search efforts.

That's when the RCMP interrupted the meeting to announce they found the body.

Mahmood said Ahmad was found near the Takakkaw Falls area and that the family identified the body.

"It's definitely an emotional time," said Mahmood. "It's sad, but there's also some satisfaction."

He said the family is relieved they can proceed with a funeral service knowing the boy's body has been found.

"This will give closure to the family, closure to the whole community," said Mahmood.
