A body was found inside a structure that burned to the ground near Jarvis early Monday morning.

Haldimand firefighters and OPP officers went to the Highway 6 address at 4:45 a.m. to find several buildings engulfed in flames.

OPP spokesperson Const. Ken Johnston said the property was described to him by officers on the ground as “like a junkyard” with a grouping of small buildings.

First responders found a body inside one of the structures that was “completely destroyed” by the fire.

The deceased has not been identified, and Johnston said it is too soon to determine whether the death was caused by the fire.

The OPP and the Office of the Fire Marshal are conducting parallel investigations.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Highway 6 near Jarvis on Monday morning and may have witnessed the fire or seen something that could help the investigation.
