Body found in Kelowna house fire deemed non-suspicious

60-year-old woman arrested following 6 suspicious fires in North Okanagan

Kelowna RCMP say a house fire and body found in the city's Rutland neighbourhood Monday night are now considered accidental and the investigation is being handed over to the B.C. Coroners Service.

At around 9:30 p.m. PT Monday, crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 1200 block of Gaggin Road.

Fire crews said smoke and flames were seen coming from the back of the home.

Following a search inside, firefighters discovered a body and informed RCMP.

"Investigational findings, as a result of a thorough examination of the fire scene, have allowed RCMP to deem the fire and death as non-suspicious," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey with the Kelowna RCMP.

No information has been released about the victim.
