Body found after fire prompts homicide investigation

Homicide detectives are investigating after a body was discovered following a fire Sunday night in northeast Edmonton.

The deceased male was found around 10 p.m. in the area of 126th Avenue and 73rd Street, police said in a news release Monday.

Police initially reported they received a call for assistance from Edmonton Fire Rescue Services for a vehicle fire, but later said they attended a fire — but not a vehicle fire.

The death is considered suspicious, police said, but no further details were provided.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

The incident was one of three over a 24-hour period that involved dead bodies in Edmonton.

The body of a male was found at about 7 a.m. outside a business near 156th Street and 112th Avenue. At almost the same time, a dead person was found by fire crews battling a blaze inside a house near 157th Street and 109th Avenue.
