All eyes were on Meghan Markle as she attended her first Trooping the Colour last weekend.
The annual event celebrates the Queen’s official birthday, June 9th, with a parade that features an inspection of military troops by Her Majesty, followed by a balcony appearance where the royal family watches the Royal Air Force fly past Buckingham Palace.
Royal-watchers were anxious to see Markle at her first balcony appearance and were keen to notice how the newlywed interacted with members of the extended royal family.
A body language expert was quick to point out the interesting dynamic between Prince Charles and his new daughter-in-law.
“Technically, Charles would be standing in the front row on the balcony, alongside the Queen and close to Kate and William, and that is where he finally placed himself once the ceremony began,” Judi James noted in an interview with Bustle. “But it is clear from these photos that he seemed drawn towards his youngest son and his new wife when it came to having a chat and a laugh.”
James noted that Charles turned towards Markle several times, while the Duchess of Cambridge was busy tending to the young children in front of her. James points out that Markle frequently puts her hand to her face to try and hide her laughter during their interactions.
“Meghan uses some great flattering body language signals to boost the ego of the people she’s talking or listening to, and the smile and raised hand here does seem to be putting Charles into raconteur mode,” she reveals.
The way the Prince of Wales behaves towards each Duchess is interesting to James, who believes his behaviour indicates a strong affection for Markle.
“There’s clearly strong bonds of affection between Charles and Kate, but Harry and his wife do seem to bring out the heir to the throne’s more playful side,” James says.
It’s been reported that Charles considers Meghan an ally to help strengthen his relationship with Prince Harry.
A source close to the royal family revealed, “Meghan met Charles and was bowled over by his charm. She told Harry he was wonderful: welcoming, warm, hard-working, kind and stable. She made it clear that he should appreciate him and bond more.”
All eyes will be on Markle later this week when she attends her first royal engagement without her husband. Markle will be accompanying the Queen to three events on June 14th , and we can’t wait to see what their dynamic is like!
