Body found of missing man in Norman Wells

The body of Howard Blondin was recovered on Saturday evening in Norman Wells, N.W.T.

Norman Wells RCMP found the missing man's body in the Mackenzie River, RCMP said in a news release on Monday afternoon.

Blondin's body was found about 500 metres from the Norman Wells docks, confirmed Jaime Kearney, who was in charge of the search, as well as the RCMP.

Blondin was a 39-year-old man from Norman Wells. He had been reported missing to the RCMP on July 17.

RCMP later found Blondin's ATV in the Mackenzie River near the community dock.

"Norman Wells RCMP, in partnership with multiple other agencies and volunteers from surrounding communities, conducted a multi-day search by foot, ATV, boat/canoe, and air," said the RCMP news release.

The RCMP are continuing an investigation into Blondin's death and will not comment on the circumstances.

The N.W.T. coroner's office has ordered a post mortem examination on the body.
