Body of South MS teen drowning victim is recovered after two-day search, authorities say
A two-day search for a missing South Mississippi teenager ended Tuesday night after authorities pulled his body from the Pascagoula River, the George County Sheriff’s Office said.
Police had been searching for 17-year-old Jakeob Mullen since Monday, when authorities said he went underwater in the Pascagoula River near Mixon Lake.
Search and rescue teams, Game and Fish officers, Jackson County Flotilla, the Department of Marine Resources, Mississippi Highway Patrol Dive Team and other emergency responders searched the water this week. Authorities said they recovered Mullen’s body at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday.
The George County Sheriff’s Office thanked first responders on the case.
“Our hearts go out to Jakeob’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media. “We ask that you please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tragic loss.”
