Authorities in Georgia have released bodycam footage showing police interviewing the teenager accused of killing four people at his high school a year before the shooting took place.

Two students and two teachers were killed in the attack at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., on Wednesday, Sept. 4. A 14-year-old student, Colt Gray, was arrested and charged as an adult with felony murder after being confronted by an officer in the school, authorities said.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the FBI released a statement saying they had been made aware of threats to commit a school shooting allegedly made by the suspect, who was then 13, in May 2023.

The FBI said the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the boy and his father, but that there was no probable cause for further action.

Footage of that interview was released by the Jackson County Sheriff, according to CNN, NBC News and Atlanta News First, which obtained the video.

In the footage, police arrive at the home of the suspect’s father, Colin Gray, and speak to him first. The father tells police there are weapons in the house but that they aren’t loaded, adding that he and his son enjoy shooting and that his son had recently shot his first deer.

The suspected shooter is then interviewed along with his father and denies having made any threats on Discord, a social media messaging platform.

“Maybe they misheard somebody else,” the alleged shooter says of the threats. “I swear.”

In the video, the suspect also told police that he had deleted Discord, having not used it in several months.

The father tells police during the interview that if his son had in fact made such threats, he would take away access to the guns.
