Boil-water advisory issued for Dorion-Vaudreuil after water main break

The city of Vaudreuil-Dorion has issued a boil-water advisory for residents of much of the suburb's Dorion sector, after a major water main break on Tuesday morning.

Residents are being asked to boil water for at least one full minute, prior to consumption.

The water main break coincides with work already underway in Vaudreuil-Dorion to repair the water system.

According to Health Canada's guidelines on boil-water advisories, water intended for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one full minute, then cooled and put in a clean container or refrigerated until it's needed for use.

That includes:

- drinking

- preparing food, beverages and ice cubes

- washing fruits and vegetables

- preparing infant formula

- brushing teeth

It is not necessary to boil tap water for other household uses, such as showering, laundry or washing dishes.
