Borat fans are overjoyed by the news that the sequel will be released far sooner than anticipated.

Sacha Baron Cohen has filmed a follow-up to his 2006 hit comedy Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, which will be released on Amazon in a matter of months.

The streaming service has announced that it has acquired worldwide rights to the new film and will unveil it just one day before Joe Biden takes on Donald Trump at the US election on 3 November.

It was filmed in secret during the pandemic, and saw the character have encounters with former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and attendees at a far-right rally in Olympia, Washington.

The sequel is reportedly titled Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan.

As well as being a joke at the expense of the much-criticised US vice president Mike Pence, the title and its release date suggests the film will have a political edge.

The film has been written by Cohen alongside collaborators Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Peter Baynham, Erica Rivinoja, Dan Mazer, Jena Friedman, and Lee Kern.

One excited fan wrote on Twitter: "He’s gonna save 2020."
