Boris Johnson‘s controversial new aide Andrew Sabitsky has resigned after it emerged he had suggested black people were mentally inferior.

The prime minister had come under growing pressure to sack the adviser but refused to say whether he agreed with the views expressed about eugenics.

Two Tory MPs had joined calls for Mr Sabitsky - believed to one of Dominic Cummings’ ‘weirdo’ recruits - to step down.

Mr Johnson also faced a backlash from Conservative MPs over the state of the nation’s flood defences after the havoc wreaked by Storm Dennis. Tory MP Philip Davies said “precious little” had changed since the 2015 floods and urged the government “to pull its finger out”.

And following reports suggesting No 10 wants to scrap the licence fee, senior Tories also warned Mr Johnson to stop picking an “unpopular fight” with the BBC, claiming it will cost the party votes.
