Boris Johnson reaches financial agreement with estranged wife Marina Wheeler, court hears

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and estranged wife Marina Wheeler have reached a financial agreement, a London family court judge has been told.

Judge Sarah Gibbons oversaw the private hearing in the Central Family Court in London on Tuesday.

Neither Mr Johnson nor Ms Wheeler were at the hearing but both were represented by barristers.

Ms Wheeler, a high-flying QC, married Mr Johnson in 1993 and separated from him two years ago.

The 54-year-old is the second wife of Mr Johnson, 55, and they share four children.

At Tuesday's hearing, Mr Johnson was represented by Neil Russell and Ms Wheeler by Lucy Stone QC.

The case number showed that Mr Johnson and Ms Wheeler had been involved in a dispute relating to money or assets.

Judge Gibbons approved a written consent order.

She also gave Ms Wheeler the go-ahead to apply for a divorce decree which would bring the marriage to an end - a Decree Absolute.

The couple announced they were divorcing after 25 years of marriage in September 2018, adding that they had separated "some time ago".

In a statement at the time, they added: "As friends we will continue to support our four children in the years ahead".

Mr Johnson currently lives in 10 Downing Street with his 31-year-old partner Carrie Symonds.

His former wife was apointed to the Queen's Council in 2016 and specialises in human rights within public law.

Ms Wheeler is the eldest daughter of BBC correspondent Sir Charles Wheeler and his Indian wife Dip Singh.

The mother-of-four revealed she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer in May 2019.

His first marriage was to Allegra Mostyn-Owen, the daughter of the art historian William Mostyn-Owen, who he divorced in 1993, six years after getting married.
