Boy, 4, in critical condition after being struck by motorcycle in hit and run
A four-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck by a motorcycle in a hit and run on Sunday afternoon, Toronto police say.
Police said they were called around 1:30 p.m. to Victoria Park Avenue at Adair Road, north of St. Clair Avenue East, with reports that a child had been struck by a motorcycle. The motorcycle fled the scene, police said.
First responders found the child in and out of consciousness before he was rushed to SickKids Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Toronto police earlier told the media that the boy had died, but later issued a correction.
Sgt. Brett Moore, spokesperson for Toronto police's traffic services, told CBC Toronto the child remains in intensive care.
Police looking for 2 suspects
Police said the motorcycle was last seen travelling northbound on Victoria Park Avenue. They said a heavy-set man, in his 40s or 50s and wearing a black helmet and dark pants, was riding the motorcycle. The passenger was described as a woman in her 20s with long, blond hair, wearing a black top and blue jeans.
Police say the female passenger was last seen running eastbound on Medonte Ave, north of the hit and run location.
Late Sunday evening, police issued security camera image of the two suspects.
The motorcycle is described as red-orange in colour, "sparkly," in the style of a Harley-Davidson cruiser.
Victoria Park Avenue from St. Clair Avenue East to Yardley Avenue was closed for the police investigation, but has since reopened.
The boy's family has asked for everyone's prayers for their son.
