Boy under 15 years old critically injured in shooting at apartments on KC’s East Side

A boy under the age of 15 years old remains hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday morning after being shot at an apartment complex on Kansas City’s East Side, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at about 11:35 p.m. at the Stonegate Meadows apartments in the 10300 block of East 42nd Street in the Riss Lake neighborhood, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

Arriving officers found the boy who had been struck by gunfire and applied pressure to the wound, Gonzalez said. Emergency medical workers took the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Medical staff notified police that the victim was alert Wednesday morning. However, Gonzalez said his injuries remain critical.
