A Bradenton man has been arrested after troopers say he hit and injured a pedestrian early Tuesday on U.S. 41 in Manatee County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers have arrested a Bradenton man after they say he hit and injured a pedestrian early Tuesday on U.S. 41 in Manatee County.

Juan Nopal Ambrosio, 48, is charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries, according to the agency.

Troopers say Ambrosio was driving an SUV north on U.S. 41 just before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. As he approached 30th Avenue West, he hit a pedestrian crossing the road, FHP said.

The pedestrian, a 33-year-old Gainesville man whose name has not been made public, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital, FHP said.

Ambrosio was not injured and turned himself in about three hours after he fled the scene, troopers said. He was booked into Manatee County Jail.

Troopers impounded the SUV that they say Ambrosio was driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
