“Dry Wind” turns on Sandro, a stolid loner prone to an active fantasy life who develops a sexual obsession for a statuesque factory co-worker.

Ever more unbalanced, Sandro looks to be going off the rails when a tragedy suddenly brings him closer to his ex-lover, the object of his desire and his co-workers who are grating at the dangers of their factory labor. “Brazilian queer cinema has a sense of urgency, which ‘Dry Wind’ captures,” says Panorama head Michael Stütz.

“Dry Wind” marks Nolasco’s first narrative feature. Optimale has also acquired “Brief Story From the Green Planet” by Argentina’s Santiago Loza, winner of the Berlinale 2019 Teddy Award. In further sales before the European Film Market, the Open Reel has sold João Maia’s “Guardian Angel” to Dekkoo for North America and the U.K.; Spanish film “Arima,” directed by Jaione Camborda, has just opened in Spain via Numax Distribution and has been acquired for China, Portugal, Benelux, U.K. and Poland.
