Stunt victim Melinda Green's ring stolen during break-in
Edmonton police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a break-in suspect after a ring belonging to a woman killed in a freak accident last year was stolen from her parents' home earlier this week.
The incident took place at the home of Melinda Green's parents in the area of 150th Avenue and 122nd Street, CBC Edmonton has learned.
Green, 20, was killed last May after a Jeep driver performing a stunt lost control and struck her at an event in Oliver Square, west of downtown Edmonton.
Green was attending a fundraiser for Edmonton Food Bank known as “Jeep Go Topless Day.” The incident has since been ruled accidental and no charge was laid.
Green's parents, John and Mira Green, are appealing for the suspect to return their daughter's ring. They are not speaking to media on Sunday,
Police believe the break-in happened sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 12: 30 p.m. on April 15.
The suspect was caught on a neighbour’s surveillance video walking away from the home just after noon and headed northbound down the sidewalk.
In addition to the ring, other items including jewelry, electronics and cash were also stolen,
The suspect is described as a white male of average height and slim build with short to medium length grey and white hair. He is approximately 60 years old.
He was wearing blue coveralls with a sweater underneath on the day of the incident.
Before the break-in, he may have also been riding a bike without shocks, but with an odometer or pedometer on the handlebars and a water bottle in the carrier. While on the bike, he was also wearing a large jacket and one glove on his right hand.
Police believe the same suspect was in the area the day before the break-in posing as an Enmax salesperson. He was wearing a large orange jacket, ball cap, glasses, and an Enmax name tag.
Enmax has not used door-to-door sales for the past several years, the energy company told investigators.
Police have released a surveillance video and still images of the suspect, as well as a photo of the ring.
