Man escapes from Krome Detention Center, police say. Search teams swarm south Miami-Dade

A man escaped from Krome Detention Center in southern Miami-Dade County Wednesday night, police say.

Nestor Yglesias, spokesman for U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, said the inmate escaped at 6:32 p.m. from Krome, 18201 SW 12th St. The detention center holds migrants who have been detained.

Several agencies, including Miami-Dade Police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, are involved in the search.

Police and federal agents were fanned out along Southwest Eighth Street and Krome Avenue late Thursday morning. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Black Hawk helicopter hovered low above tree tops looking for the man.
