Bristol Palin: Marriage Expert

Dancing with the Stars runner-up Bristol Palin takes issue with President Obama's announcement that his daughters helped "evolve" his thinking on gay marriage, and not a few people have pointed out that her post on the subject lacks some, um, self-awareness. But hey, Palin is a young person and she has an issue with the way young people are represented in this gay marriage debate, so take it away Bristol:

I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox.

Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking.  In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.

To be fair, Sasha and Malia could have learned all about unfrightening gay people on a lot of television shows these days. (They actually learned, Obama said yesterday, from their friends with gay parents.)

Palin leaves herself open to some obvious rebuttals, writing: "[A]s great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids' worldview." Palin, of course, had a baby out of wedlock with Levi Johnston, who recently made headlines for naming his daughter (with another woman) after an Italian handgun. So we certainly don't wonder at her decision not to marry him, and it's not that this makes her unentitled to her opinions, it's just that it requires those opinions be considered big news on TMZ.
