It was a big night for the Brits on Tuesday as it aired its 40th ceremony, with Jack Whitehall presenting for the third year in a row.

The evening was full of memorable performances from acts such as Dave, Stormzy, Celeste, Lizzo, Rod Stewart, and Billie Eilish - who performed her Bond theme.

The famous music awards aired on ITV as usual, but there were aspects of the evening that weren't captured for viewers at home.

The glammed-up stars stepped out on the red carpet as they arrived at the O2 Arena in Greenwich where the event has been held since 2011.

Audi were on hand to chauffeur stars such as Stormzy, Maya Jama, and Dave to the event, as the company supported the Brits for the 14th year.

This year's awards shows have seen greater steps made towards sustainability and that was reflected in the transport as one of the models provided by Audi was the new all-electric e-tron.

Before Mabel took to the stage to open the show, there was a three-course meal on offer for guests as they made their way to the arena floor where they had a vegan starter of charred Lincolnshire cauliflower with mango mayo and coconut chips.

Meat-eaters were treated to coq au vin, cornfed chicken breast cooked in red wine and presented with turnip puree, carrots, woodland mushrooms, chicken bacon and Anna potatoes.

As a plant-based diet becomes an increasingly popular choice, there was of course a vegan option which saw guests dine on a beetroot and chickpea Wellington with horseradish potatoes, roasted carrots and carrot puree, turnips and beetroot sauce.

Meanwhile, spiced poached pear, chocolate crumble and blackberry custard was the vegan dessert of choice while others ate a vanilla mousse, dark chocolate cake, mint choc chip ice cream and mint gel.

While the Brits has recently moved away from the alcohol-fuelled chaos of previous years, there was plenty of booze on offer for those wanting to imbibe.

Bottles of Laurent Perrier Champagne, Sancerre Blanc Domaine de la Chezatte 2016 and Little Eden Pinot Noir filled the tables alongside Red Stripe beer and Brixton Brewery IPAs.

As for the actual prize-giving, some viewers were left scratching their heads when Lewis Capaldi's acceptance speech for Best New Artist was muted.

The brief thank-you from the Scottish singer included an expletive which came before the 9pm watershed, so his comments were censored.

"Thank you very f***ing much. See ya later," is what the Someone You Loved hitmaker said as he reached the podium.

Viewers did see the show open with a touching tribute to Caroline Flack from Whitehall, as he described her as a “kind and vibrant person” before sending his love out to her family and friends.

There were also political statements made as Dave dubbed Boris Johnson “racist” in a powerful performance of his single Black.
