BROCKTON – Council approved a request from Shalyn Sulkye for funding to assist her in competing at the 2021 WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations) World Kickboxing Championship in Italy where she’ll be representing Canada.

The event takes place Oct. 14-24.

Sulkye won the World Championship as a junior athlete in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2010, and told council in her letter that she hopes to bring home a gold medal from Italy.

Coun. James Lang asked if there are any other athletes from Sulkye’s group going to the same competition.

Mayor Chris Peabody said there are four.

With that in mind, Lang suggested a total donation of $800 – $200 for each athlete in the group attending the international competition.
