New Brunswick weather: colder than normal end to April

As the month of April draws to a close, CBC meteorologist Peter Coade says it will remain cool with more snow than rain expected.

He says a low pressure system to our south is responsible for an easterly flow over Atlantic Canada for the next few days resulting in a series of disturbances from the North Atlantic.

"Due to the coldness of the North Atlantic, our temperatures will be held to much colder than the normal for the end of April which means more snow than rain in many communities," Coade said.

"This weather pattern is not expected to change until the latter part of the week when that low pressure to our south will
finally drift farther out into the North Atlantic."

Monday forecast:

In northern New Brunswick the work week will start out cloudy, windy and cool with two to five millimetres of rain in the west and five to ten millimetres of rain mixed with five centimetres of snow in the east.

High temperatures on Monday afternoon will reach 8 C in the northwest and 4 C in the northeast.

Overnight another two to five centimetres of rain is expected in the northeast, with a low near 2 C.

For Fredericton and area, Monday will be windy and cold with five millimetres of rain and a high near 6 C.

Overnight will also be windy with rain changing to scattered flurries and a low near 0 C.

For southern New Brunswick Monday will be windy and cold with five millimetres of rain in the west, rain mixed with about two centimetres of snow in the east and a high of 6 C.

Rain will continue overnight, occasionally mixed with snow, and a low of 0 C.
