New Brunswick weather: Hot and humid day expected on Wednesday

Intense heat sweeps into southern Manitoba

Wednesday will be hot and humid with an area of high pressure acting like a "heat pump," says CBC meteorologist Peter Coade.

The high temperature is expected to reach 30 C across New Brunswick.

"Today will be very warm, very hazy and quite humid in much of the region. The exception to the very warm temperatures being where a moderate southwest wind blows in off the Fundy or the Atlantic," said Coade.

However, he says rain is expected to move in by Thursday afternoon.

"An area of low pressure will be tracking to the east through central Quebec. This feature will drag a trough of low pressure in its wake that will move into the Maritimes in the latter part of the week showing up as some showers or periods of rain," he says.

Coade says even with the clouds, temperatures will remain well above the normal daytime high, reaching 26 C on Thursday.

"There are still strong indications that rain can be expected again over the weekend, mainly on Sunday and with that rain we will see a return to cooler than normal temperatures," said Coade.

Wednesday forecast

In northern New Brunswick, fog will give way Wednesday morning to a sunny and warm day with some afternoon clouds and a chance of a shower or thundershower.

Winds will be from the southwest at 30 kilometres per hour and the high is expected to reach 30 C, cooler along the coast.

For the Fredericton area, Wednesday will be sunny and warm with some afternoon cloudiness, southwest winds gusting to 50 kilometres per hour and a high near 30 C.

In southern New Brunswick, it will be windy and warm with a mix of sun and cloud on Wednesday with southwest winds gusting to 50 km/h in the afternoon.

The temperature will reach 30 C on Wednesday afternoon, although it will be cooler along the Fundy coast.
