New Brunswick weather: Snow expected on Easter weekend

Easter weekend weather to be messy across Maritimes

The Easter weekend will start out mild on Friday with chances of snow coming over the next two days, says CBC meteorologist Peter Coade.

Coade says Thursday will start out sunny but cloud will move into the region later in the day with snow developing in the evening across New Brunswick.

"Snowfall will be slight with the onset of the mild weather for Friday as temperatures will be on the rise overnight
which will change any snow to rain, however there is the risk of freezing rain during the changeover in the overnight hours," Coade said.

Friday will be very mild with showers or periods of rain that will clear the area Friday evening to make way for another disturbance that will move through on Saturday.

Coade says most of Nova Scotia will see rain, but Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and possibly northern Nova Scotia will see snow.

"Southern New Brunswick could see a mix of snow and rain," Caode said.

If the current track of the disturbance holds, Coade says there is potential for five to 15 centimetres of snow.

"That brand of weather will then move out Saturday night however there will be another weak disturbance slide across the area on Sunday with some flurries or light snow," he said.

Coade says Monday will bring some fair weather, with temperatures on the cool side to start the week.

Thursday temperatures

Most of New Brunswick will enjoy mild temperatures on Thursday but there is a chance of snow developing in the evening.

For northern New Brunswick, Thursday will be mainly sunny with a high of 2 C and winds from the northwest at 20 to 30 kilometres per hour.

Clouds will move in near midnight with two to five centimetres of snow and the risk of freezing rain in the Miramichi is expected.

For Fredericton and area, it will be mainly sunny, clouding over late in the afternoon with a high of 6 C on Thursday.

Showers and flurries will develop early in the evening before changing to snow overnight. Two to five centimetres of snow is expected and two to five millimetres of rain.

In southern New Brunswick, Thursday will be mainly sunny with a high of 6 C, clouding over late in the afternoon with snow developing late this evening.

Two centimetres of snow is expected along with two to five millimetres of rain.
