Extreme wind and snow lashed Bryant’s Cove on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador on January 17 as a blizzard hit the province.
“The wind coming off the ocean is absolutely brutal. It was at this point I said that I didn’t understand how power would stay on any longer, and about 10 minutes later it went. Grateful for our generator and hoping everyone stays safe,” said Twitter user @HeritageRowReno, who filmed these videos.
The storm caused power outages affecting about 200 people in Bryant’s Cove and Upper Island Cove, local reports said.
The towns of Mount Pearl, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, Paradise, and Torbay all declared states of emergency as the province was battered by a blizzard that brought high winds and driving snow.
Over 14 inches of snow had fallen in the city of St John’s by 1.30 pm local time, reports said, and the area was expected to receive up to 30 inches of snow in all. Credit: @HeritageRowReno via Storyful
