Bubba Watson takes shot at media after missing Masters cut, later apologizes

Bubba Watson lost a lot of weight in the offseason.

He did not lose his famed inability to play nice with others — or his healthy distaste for the media.

Moments after finishing a dismal round on Friday, the two-time Masters champion and reigning tour sourpuss took out his frustration on some golf writers who were interviewing him.

Watson recorded eight bogeys for a six-over 78 in Friday’s second round and will miss the cut by two strokes at +8.

That early exit gave one sportswriter the only opening he needed to shoot back at Bubba.

The whole episode actually reminds of the time that former Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight took a shot at the press by saying “most of us learn to write by the second grade, then move onto bigger things.”

Said Sports Illustrated writer Steve Rushin: “Most of us stop calling ourselves Bobby by the second grade, too.”

The takeaway? Never take on anyone who buys ink by the barrel lives on Twitter.

UPDATE: After seeing his remark backfire, Watson took to Twitter to apologize and say his attempt at humor did not come out as intended. “Golf is hard. And if Bubba Watson tried to write an article, that would be very hard,” he said.
