Anthony Head is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment, with a starring role as a very unsavoury character in Netflix's The Stranger.

But to many he will always be known as Giles the Watcher from the iconic Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which is one of the many properties that is going through the reboot factory at the moment.

Whichever direction the reboot story decides to go in, it's fair to say that everyone is hoping Head can return as Giles somehow – and that's something the actor agrees with.

"Yes," he replied, when asked by the New York Post if he'd star in the Buffy reboot.

"I wouldn't know what as, because Giles has aged a little bit. Maybe I'm the head of the Watchers Council now. But to be honest, of course I would. It was so formative."

The star also reflected on the hit show more generally and admitted that fans of the show do still bring it up to him more than 15 years after the series ended in 2003.

"It does span the generations," he added. "I still don't understand how it never came away with any Emmys, or any of those awards. People [tell me] how much it meant to them at the time they were growing up, how it resonated, and bless them.

"They quite often say Giles was the father figure that was missing in their lives for various reasons. I think that's part of its longevity. It hit home. It's quite remarkable."

A reboot may seem like a sacrilegious idea, but Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has defended the move.

"At the end of the day, it's all about great storytelling," she said. "If a story lives on, then I think it should be told in any incarnation it can be told in."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons 1-7 are now available to watch on Amazon Prime.
