Building explodes at Tim Horton’s Memorial Camp in McDougall

Around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, McDougall Fire Department responded to a call that a building had exploded at the Tim Horton’s Memorial Camp in McDougall.

The camp is located on Lorimer Lake Road and McDougall’s fire chief Brian Leduc said that maintenance staff was onsite and just beginning their day when the incident happened.

“The Jack and Jill dormitories – big buildings about 8,000 square feet each, wood frame construction and it was the Jill building, which is where the female children would be housed,” said Leduc.

There was a major explosion inside the building and as a result the fire broke out, destroying the building.

However, nobody was in the buildings at the time and no one was injured.

Both McDougall fire stations responded to the call and had tanker assistance from McKellar Fire Department and fire crew assistance from the Town of Parry Sound.

The cause of explosion is currently under investigation.
