STRATHROY- A hiring report was presented by the Chief Administrative Officer Fred Tranquilli on 19 July 2021. The report announced the hiring of Shane Hughes, formerly from London’s building department.

Speaking to the report Tranquilli said, “As you all know we continue to see lots of activity in building and planning. And with slight reorganizing in that department under director Huff’s leadership we have advanced one of our former building inspector plan examiners into the Chief Building Official role. This hire is back filling the vacancy that that movement created.”

Tranquilli also announced the recruitment of a new team member filling in these shoes.

“We are happy to let you know that we recruited Shane Hughes from the City of London’s Building Dept. Shane started with us about two and a half weeks ago (5 July start date), so we wanted to bring the council up to date on this staffing compliment as well as our efforts to meet the demand for surging building demands in the community.”

According to the report, Strathroy-Caradoc underwent an ‘extensive recruitment process’ which saw numerous applicants for the position.

“Mr. Hughes has over five years of experience as a Plans Examiner and Building Inspector from his time with the City of Toronto and the City of London. Prior to working as a Building Inspector, he worked in construction which has provided him with a specialized set of skills that complement the Building Inspector/Plans Examiner role. Mr. Hughes also boasts an extensive resume of training and education, and ongoing professional development, including qualifications to inspect in many categories of the Building Code like “Large Buildings” and “Building Structural.”

According to the report the interview panel consisted of the Director of Building & Planning, Human Resources Generalist, Chief Building Official, Building Inspector / Plans Examiner, Development Services Coordinator, By-Law Enforcement Officer.
