One man is dead and another has been charged following what Calgary police are calling a "fatal altercation" in the inner-city community of Mission.

Police say the victim and suspect are cousins.

On Oct. 30 around 10:45 p.m., officers were called to an apartment in the 300 block of 26th Avenue S.W. for reports of a man in medical distress.

"EMS attended and after significant efforts were able to stabilize the victim and transport him to hospital in critical condition," said police in a release. "Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries on ... Nov. 2."

The homicide unit investigated and an autopsy was conducted, which identified the victim as 30-year-old Stephen Scott.

Police say they believe that Scott was socializing with friends at an apartment when he left with another man, which is when a fight happened that left him critically injured.

Levi Michael Scott, 32, from Calgary has since been charged with second-degree murder. Police say he was arrested without incident on Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
