City services

Calgary Transit will be operating on a Sunday level of service. Visit their website for more information on how your routes will be affected.

The city's administration offices will be closed for the holiday, but waste and recycling services — as well as collection at community recycling depots — will not be affected.

The Spyhill Landfill and Shepard Landfill are closed today, but the East Calgary Landfill is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city's Animal Services Centre will be closed for the holiday.

Family Day was first held in Alberta in 1990 and has caught on in other provinces, but is not a federal holiday.
